York Chamber Music Festival 2025 will be launched at this event by Tim Lowe, Artistic Director of YCMF and John Lenehan, who open this year’s festival with a ‘taster’ – setting out some of the 2025 themes; notably Russian music, playing here Rachmaninov’s gloriously tuneful Cello Sonata which reveals the mystic aspect of Rachmaninov’s art, inspired by his devotion to the Eastern Orthodox church. Where better to start YCMF 2025 than with the last of Beethoven’s Cello sonatas where he touches the Cosmos and changes the idea of the ‘cello sonata’ for ever…
Join us for an evening of classic chamber music in the concert-perfect surroundings of St Margaret’s Church. Come and hear about the 2025 line-up of stellar string players (all of them have been before) and not to mention that the wonderful Russian pianist, Katya Apekisheva, returns to perform with the string players masterpieces by Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky.
